753 Matcha and Sakura Matcha Compared

753 Matcha

Our 753 Matcha comes from Honyama in Shizuoka, a mountainous tea-growing region where mist, clean water and dramatic shifts in temperature help create beautifully complex tea.

It's a blend of three cultivars: Asahi, Okumidori and Saemidori. The leaves are first harvest and shade-grown using a traditional two-stage process before being stone-milled into a vibrant green powder.

The result is smooth and umami-rich, with gentle nuttiness, delicate nori notes and a natural sweetness. This is our classic. If you want to experience Marlo's Matcha in its purest form, start here.

Sakura Matcha

Sakura Matcha takes things in a completely different direction.

It starts with first-harvest, single-origin matcha from Gifu Prefecture, which is stone-milled before being blended with finely ground sakura leaf from Shizuoka.

And when we say sakura, we're talking about the actual leaf (not artificial flavouring).

Sakura leaves are traditionally salt-pickled before being dried, which gives them that distinctive Japanese sakura aroma and slightly savoury character. We don't add sugar or artificial flavourings, allowing the matcha and sakura to speak for themselves.

The result is floral, nutty and slightly savoury. In fact, Sakura is our nuttiest matcha in the entire lineup.

Is Sakura Matcha Sweet?

This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions around flavoured matcha.

Sakura Matcha doesn't contain any added sugar.

We wanted to create a flavoured matcha where high-quality matcha was still the star. Rather than masking it with syrups, sugar or artificial flavourings, we use real sakura leaf powder to complement the natural flavour of the tea.

So while you can absolutely turn it into a sweeter Sakura Matcha Latte, the powder itself isn't sweetened.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you're looking for your everyday matcha, start with 753.

It's smooth, balanced and umami-rich, and gives you the classic matcha experience. If you're new to Marlo's Matcha and aren't sure where to begin, this is the one we'd recommend first.

If you already love matcha but want to try something a little different, go for Sakura Matcha.

It's especially good if you love nutty, richer flavour profiles and want something floral without tasting artificial or overly sweet.
